Key Benefits

Undertaking a NABERS Energy rating can help building owners (regardless of the sector they belong to), identify utilities’ consumption trends and understand better their carbon footprint. Some of the key benefits experienced by owners as a result of taking action after undertaking a NABERS Rating are:

  • Cheaper energy and water bills
  • Lower environmental impact
  • Improve water efficiency
  • Increase building value

Energy Efficiency

Over recent years, people around the world have started paying more attention to their electricity consumption, which is great! – However it has become quite common for mass consumers (i.e. apartment buildings, shopping centres, commercial buildings, data centres, etc) to assume that renewable energy such as installing solar panels should be the first step to improve their energy consumption and reduce the related costs, but this is a misconception, because this should be the last step of their process!

Here at HFM, we recommend our clients that the first step towards energy efficiency should be to undertake an Energy Audit or a Rating such as NABERS Energy Rating, to get a better understanding about the building’s energy consumption, which is likely to highlight opportunities for improvement.

This should then be followed by other consultancy services such as developing an energy management plan (improvement plan), energy procurement, monitoring energy consumption using tools such as Yardstick and only after all other measures have been undertaken, then renewable energy is the right path to follow.

The main reason behind this is that when energy consumption is measured/analysed and strategies are implemented, a building can improve its energy efficiency (lowering consumption and costs), and after this is done (when the building is performing at its best), is the right time to consider renewable energy.

Net Zero

Achieving Net Zero emissions is an important step in responding to the climate change crisis. Setting a net zero target and having a clear emissions reduction strategy provides several significant benefits.
