Each year, Mental Health Week is celebrated in October with various activities held across Australia; aiming to remind the community about the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

In Western Australia, Mental Health Week is run by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) and supported by the Government of WA, Mental Health Commission and Lotterywest.

This year Volleyball Western Australia, in partnership with WAAMH, organised the 2019 Fortix Corporate Cup on World Mental Health Day (10th October) to promote the ways sport can help contribute to good mental health.

Putting into practise the theme of mental health week this year “mental health starts where we live, learn, work and play” members of the HFM team took time away from their desks to fight it out for Fortix Corporate Cup. The competition took place at Yagan Square and included over 40 employees from 7 companies.

The companies that took part in this challenge were:

After triumphing in all 4 of their matches, the HFM team was the overall winner! Congratulations to HFM’s volleyball players: Beth Morris, Darren Wills, Matthew Fynn, Navin Chalisey, Laura Prada and Will Starkie.

Special mention to Matthew Fynn (Data Analyst – HFM) who was also awarded most valuable player in the competition.

Well done to the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) and Volleyball WA for this great event and for their important work towards mental health awareness.
