Greenhouse Ratings
The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) is a performance-based rating system for existing buildings. NABERS rates a building on the basis of its measured operational impacts on the environment. Rating can be completed in terms of whole building, tenancy and base building. There are currently energy, water, waste and indoor environment ratings for office towers, as well as energy and water ratings for hotels. The retail rating system will be launched later this year.
The Australian Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) scheme was the tool for rating energy in office towers, and has now been included in the NABERS energy tool.
The purpose of NABERS is to enable office, hotel and retail buildings to measure their relative impact on the environment through the production of greenhouse gases. Market recognition of performance through this benchmark will help drive down greenhouse emissions and encourage improved efficiency.
Building owners, managers or occupants can manage and reduce these environmental impacts. NABERS is designed to provide you with a simple indication of how well you are managing these environmental impacts compared with your peers and neighbours.
BENCHMARKING TOOL DEVELOPERS
HFM is at the forefront of the development of greenhouse rating tools in Australia and we are heavily committed to sustainability. Our benchmarking tools form the basis for measuring performance, and efficiency in buildings. The value of our benchmarking capabilities has recently been validated with our invitation to become involved in the development of ABGR and NABERS tools for building types other than office buildings.

HFM has been appointed by DECC (NSW Govt.) in joint venture with Exergy Australia to create water and energy benchmarks for the Hotels Energy and Water Benchmarking Tool.

HFM has been appointed by DECC (NSW Govt.) in joint venture with Exergy Australia to create water and energy benchmarks for the NABERS Retail Shopping Centre Benchmarking Tool.
NABERS (& ABGR) ACCREDITED ASSESSORS
The NABERS delivers accredited ratings to customers via accredited assessors. These assessors are selected based on qualifications and experience, then trained and tested. They agree to abide by a code of conduct before being accredited.
